Dear Kabayang OFW,
Good day.
I came across your blog while trying to find out kung papaano maka-reach out sa mga kababayang OFW dito sa Doha.
Like you, I am also an OFW pero based ako sa Dubai. I and our advocacy team in UAE are also trying to do our small part on how to improve the lives of the OFWs in the Middle East.
So why am I here in Doha?
For the past three years, I have been advocating in UAE financial literacy for the OFWs and their families. I think we've gathered momentum there now.
I believe it is now time to go beyond UAE.
As workers, Filipinos have always held our heads up high above other nationalities. Wala tayong problem kung pagtratrabaho lang ang pag-uusapan. Da best ika nga.
Pero pagdating sa paghawak at pagpapalago ng pera, zilch tayo.
Di naman lahat, pero mas nakakarami..
Hence pag tinanong mo ang isang Pinoy dito sa Gitnang Silangan, haggang kailan ka magiging OFW?
Malamang sa hindi, hindi alam ang sagot. Hindi alam kung haggang kailan.
Or ang sasabihing pabiro . ..
Hanggang May na lang . . . hanggang may langis.
But this is a serious question that every one of us must have a definite answer if we are to take charge of our life.
Because the danger is that if we are not sure when, then most OFWs might be included in the statistics that 98% of the senior citizens today are financially struggling.
Only 2% are financially stable. When we relate this to OFWs, nagtrabaho ng 10, 15, 20 years sa gitnang silangan. . . tapos pag uwi, hikahos pa rin ang karamihan.
When probed on the cause of the wide discrepancy, the reason lies on financial planning.
Yung 2% merong financial plan and acted on it. Yung 98%, wala.
People don't plan to fail in life. They fail because they didn't plan.
Bakit walang planong pinansyal ang 98%?
Three reasons given :
1. They don't know how to do financial planning. Or the information they know, mali o di na angkop ngayong panahong ito.
2, No money daw. Kokonti lang naman ang natitira sa sweldo (kung meron man), so ginagastos na lang.
3. Merong alam, merong pera, pero walang disiplina
We've learned that the solutions to the above reasons are simple.
Simple lang. Kailangan lang may magturo at ipakitang madali.
And then, hopefully madali ng masagot ng isang OFW kung hanggang kailan siya magiging OFW.
It is for this reason that I wrote you this email.
I'd like to share with the simple money concepts that will shock you in its simplicity
but dumbfound you with its power and effectiveness.
